Windows 11 Build 27766 is Available: What's New?
Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27766 to the Canary Channel, introducing several improvements and fixes to enhance the user experience.
General Improvements and Fixes
- Policy Enforcement Correction: An issue was resolved where rolling back from Build 27764 to an earlier version caused incorrect policy enforcement. This led to a "Your organization used App Control for Business to block this app" dialog when attempting to use or install certain third-party applications.
- Upgrade Rollback Resolution: The primary causes of increased rollbacks during upgrades, identified by error code
0xc190010
, have been addressed. This generic error code has multiple root causes; users experiencing continued issues are encouraged to provide feedback via the Feedback Hub (WIN + F
). - Explorer.exe Stability: A fix has been implemented for an underlying issue that caused frequent
explorer.exe
crashes for some Insiders in the Canary Channel after performing a clean installation or resetting their PC.
Known Issues
- Windows Hello PIN and Biometrics on Copilot+ PCs: Users joining the Canary Channel on new Copilot+ PCs from the Dev Channel, Release Preview Channel, or retail may encounter errors (
0xd0000225
) indicating that their PIN isn't available. This results in the loss of Windows Hello PIN and biometric sign-in options. Affected users should be able to recreate their PIN by selecting "Set up my PIN." - Visual Effects Anomalies: There is an ongoing issue causing accent-colored window borders not to display when enabled, shadows around windows not appearing when activated, and window animations playing despite the setting to disable animations being turned off. Microsoft is actively working on a fix for these visual inconsistencies.
As with all Canary Channel releases, features and experiences in these builds are in the early stages of development. They may change, be removed, or never be released beyond Windows Insiders. Users are advised that switching from the Canary Channel to a channel with lower build numbers requires a clean installation of Windows 11.
